In many African countries, such as Nigeria, there has been an increasing shortage of highly skilled individuals vital to the transformation of local economies. As a consequence of this, companies located in these countries have experienced a limited selection of prospective employees. To deal with this shortfall of skilled workers, many local corporations offer to send their current workers for advance training overseas in institutions located in Europe and North America. Also, many individuals desirous of higher paying jobs and the prerequisite skills for such jobs actively seek further training in these institutions.

Traditionally, prospective students and educational establishments have come together as a result of the student’s own limited and sometimes hasty research, ‘word of mouth’, or advertisements placed in magazines or newspapers. None of these methods afford the student a thorough review of options and guidance on the choice to make. Also, foreign institutions have had considerable challenges in evaluating the suitability of these prospective students for enrollment.
